Shinee (샤이니, stylized as SHINee, pronounced /ˈʃaɪniː/ “shiny”) is acontemporary R&B South Korean boy band. Formed by SM Entertainment in 2008, they made their debut on May 25, 2008 on SBS‘s Popular Songs with their promotional single, “Noona Neomu Yeppeo (Replay)” (“누난 너무 예뻐 (Replay)”, lit. “Older Girl, You’re So Pretty (Replay)”). The group consists of Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, and Taemin. Since their debut, Shinee has won numerous awards. They have also starred in their own reality show based on their song, “Noona Neomu Yeppeo (Replay)”. Shinee is considered to be a fashion icon having started the “Shinee Trend”.

SHINee is known for their fashion style, created by designer Ha Sang Baek (하상백), which features high-top sneakers, skinny jeans and colorful sweaters^. Their style has created a fashion trend amongst students which the media dubbed the “Shinee Trend”.This has led to product endorsements, and the band has promoted Smart,Korean cosmetic company Nana’s B,andReebok.

History/Background: Onew has never really been the richest kids on the streets. Hell, he never lived on a street with a lot of rich kids either. He was born and raised into a family consisting of his mother and father. Growing up with no siblings he grew accostumed to being by himself.

In his early school years his grades were never the best, he was never the most popular kid either. But even so, he always carried on with a huge smile on his lips, trying each day to make other people smile, because that is what he did (and still do) best.

Around his 16th birthday, Onew’s family was facing some difficulties with their economy. His father’s business having to cut down on empoloyees and his whole life crashing down on him. His parents soon finding a school that would enlighten his possiblies for the future, and by working there also get easier access to food and stuff that his family was now having difficulties with. He could do nothing to accept it and was relucantly shipped to the school of S:t Ordalia to work.
